Elections for sale report
Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust challenges issues which might be seen to corrupt democracy.
It commissioned a report into election spending by British political parties between 2015-2017 and found evidence suggesting rules were being broken. The client briefed us to work on a report summarising the Trust’s findings and setting out its recommendations.
The serious and sensitive nature of the content required a constrained approach to design. We chose photography which reflected the election process in general – rather than any particular party – and a colour palette which spanned party boundaries.
We defined the hierarchy of the copy using colour-blocking and introduced unique icons to define different sections. This was an interesting exercise which challenged us to moderate our approach to ensure the content was presented in a balanced and fair way.
